Meet the Team
Keep Hanoi Clean benefits from the expertise of permanent staff, volunteer specialists and leading advisers.
Our diverse team works across the multi-disciplinary fields of administration, marketing, fundraising, environmental science, event planning, and education. Recent university graduates work alongside corporate executives, senior environmental PhD scientists, marketing professionals and experienced sustainability consultants.
Above all, the entire team are passionate about bringing about real change to Hanoi’s natural environments.
James Joseph Kendall – Founder
James Kendall is an American English teacher with a B.A. in Communications who has lived in Vietnam since 2013. His captivation with Hanoi’s culture and passion for the environment inspired him in May 2016 to invite a group of friends to clean up Yen Hoa canal in Cau Giay district. The activity soon went viral and led James and his friends to found Keep Hanoi Clean.
“If we all do our own part, big or small, to protect the environment, it adds up to something greater than we could ever possibly imagine.”
Diep Bui – President
Diep Bui became a member of KHC in 2016 and is currently the legal owner of Keep Hanoi Clean Social Enterprise. In 2019, she was an Environmental Fellow of the Community Solutions Program, a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the United States Department of State and implemented by IREX. During four months in the USA, she worked at EarthGen to develop and implement environmental education programs. She was also selected to be one of the young emerging leaders to participate in the Global Leadership Forum 2019 – Collaborative Solutions for Social Impact, which is hosted by the Presidential Precinct and the University of Virginia.
Douglas Snyder – General Director
Douglas Snyder joined KHC in 2016 and now serves in a leadership role. He is an environmentalist from the United States with over 20 years of experience working on sustainable development issues and green building design. He has a B.S. in Environmental Studies and an M.S. in Organizational Management. Based in Hanoi since 2012, besides Keep Hanoi Clean, he’s been fortunate enough to work locally on sustainability programs for the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Science and Technology, USAID, IFC-World Bank Group, UNDP, DFAT, VGBC, Vietnam Green Building Council, and ARDOR Architects.
